Empty: January + Febuary

Hello my loves,

It is the end of February and that means it is time for another posts full with empty products. Not that many but still a reasonable number of empty stuff.
These are the shower products I finished. The two products on the left are a shampoo and conditioner I finished, I have been using them with a lot of joy but I have decided to purchase the intense repair version. I also finished this 'Destressing Shower Mousse' from HEMA and I have really liked using this as well. The last shower product I finished during the past two months is the 'Papaya Shower Gel' from The Body Shop. The bottle looks a little bit cray cray, that is because I tried to get the last bit of soap out for these photos with some hot water. The water was too hot and transformed the bottle in this weird looking thingy madingy. These two showergels I will not repurchase because I grew a little bit tired of the scents.
This is the skincare I finished and I believe four is a record. The Roc 'Multi-Action Make-Up Remover Milk' is something I use every night to get my eye makeup off and already bought a new one. Than I finished the Bioderma Micellar water, this I use after I have removed all my makeup to get rid of any access makeup. I really want to repurchase this but I cannot because it is not sold here in the Netherlands. Therefore I am currently using a micellar water from Vichy but I still like the Bioderma one better, I do not know why but I do. I also finished the 'Best Face Forward Daily Foaming Cleanser' from Formula 10.0.6., I did not hate this but it also is not a favourite of mine and therefore I will not repurchase it when I know there must be something better on the market. As almost always in my empty posts, I finished a Vichy 'Aqualia Thermal' this time the rich version in a tube. I repurchased this in a jar because that is cheaper relative to the tube. In the wintertime I always switch to the rich version because my skin needs more hydration during this time a year.
Then the last four things I finished. Firstly my 'Lemony Flutter', it is not completely finished but the oil started separating from the butter and it just does not smell right anymore. I have to keep the packaging because when you when you hand in 5 empty packages from Lush, you get a free face mask. I also finished the Longwear Top Coat from HEMA but this I did not like at all, it did not do anything for my nails. The third product in this photo is a body butter from The Body Shop, the Ginger Sparkle one. I absolutely loved this but I cannot repurchase it right now, I have to wait until the holidays next year until I can buy it again. The packaging I am saving for traveling because I can put some body butter in it and take this small jar with me when I am traveling. The last product I finished is my beloved Glamour Doll Mascara from Catrice. I am not going to say much about this but it is amazing!
That was is for this blogpost. Not that many empty products but still quite a few. I hope you liked reading this post and come back in two months for another post with empty products. Than with the products I finished during March and April!

Books I Recently Got

Hello my loves,

During the winter time I alway tend to read a lot more than I usually do. When I was cleaning out my bookcase, I saw that I have bought quite a lot of books in the past two months. This gave me an idea for a blogpost, maybe you would like to read about the books I read. I have bought six books during the past two months, one of them is english but the other ones are Dutch. The english book is for school but the other books are just for my own enjoyment.
This is my most recent purchase and it is the only English book I bought. Since I saw the movie with Leonardo DiCaprio, I have been wanting to read this book. I discovered that I still had to read a book for English and that was my opportunity, I bought 'The Great Gatsby' by F. Scott Fitzgerald and I am really exited to start reading this.
A friend of me read this book for school (we have to read Dutch books for our Dutch lessons) and she totally loved it. I saw it on sale and I picked it up. The title in English is 'I embrace you with a thousand arms' but I do not know if this is the official title, I do not even know if it is translated into English. This book is Dutch literature and therefore not the easiest book to read for me but since my friend loved so much, I want to give it a try.
This book is amazing! I read this for my Dutch class and it is one of the best books I have ever read. In English this book is called 'In Lucia's Eyes' and I know for sure that this is translated in English as well. Arthur Japin is one of my favourite Dutch writers and this book was no exception. I finished this within a week and that while it is quite heavy literature.
This is a book I have been wanting to read for a while now and that urge grew when I saw the movie. Julia Roberts is such a good actress and I hope this book will not disappoint me. This is the movie edition and in English this book is called; 'Eat, Pray, Love'.
I am currently reading this book and I have been wanting to read it for a long time now. My friend read it in English and than I could not wait anymore, I ordered it and started reading. After one night I am on page 128 which is halfway through and I have already cried. I will let you know when I finish it and what my final thoughts on it are. Ow, this is 'The Fault In Our Stars' by the way.
I bought this in the beginning of January because the story really appealed to me but I have not read it yet. There were other books that drew my attention to read first. I have a few books left from the library that I am going to read first but than this one will be finally in my hands to read.
I hope you enjoyed reading about the books I have been reading and have been buying lately. Maybe I will do some more updated on my reading if you would like that. As I wrote, I am currently reading 'The Fault in Our Stars' and after that I will be reading 'Scarlet' by Marissa Meyer, this book I got from the library. Before these I read Blue Moon by Allyson Noël, part two of 'The Immortals' serie. I have been liking this serie a lot.

Essence Lipliner in 08 Red Blush

Hello my loves,

Red lips, the most sexy variation of lips. The red lips of Marilyn Monroe, the Red RiRi Woo lipstick by MAC and the Iconic red lipsticks of  Dior. I understand the love for red lipstick that a lot of people have but I do not share that love with them. Pinks are more my thing and I never like the way red lips look on me. That does not mean I do not love the way it looks on some people. I wanted to try a red lipstick again and I came to the conclusion that I did not know own a red lipliner, I went to the story and got the cheapest one I could find.
The cheapest lipliner in the store was this one from Essence. There are more shades but since I was on the hunt for a red one I went with '08 Red Blush'. I own two other shades and I use those quite often, maybe this will become a staple in my collection as well.
I am sorry for the blurry swatch photo but the colour comes across quite good. The pencil has a beautiful rich red colour and even though it is a little bit harsh when you apply it for the first one but when the point is flattened, the pencil feels very creamy and soft on the lips.
Applying lipstick is one of the things I find very hard to do, especially applying a pigmented lipliner. I never get it quite right and I am never content with the result. Not on this photo not ever. The red shade is darker than I was expecting but I still love the look of it, it looks more bloody than I was expecting.

I still did not like the way  red lips look on my but it is growing on me, I do not think I will wear this a lot but maybe some time soon when I have a party or something. This lipliner cost me €0,99 and I think the quality is really good, just a nice lipliner.

NYX Butter Gloss in Merengue

Hello my loves,
I have finally found a store which sells NYX products! NYX is a brand that I have been eying for a while but I have never been able to find a selling point. Until a few weeks ago I saw a comment on a blog which said that the Douglas (a Dutch perfumery) in Utrecht sells NYX. I went to that store and found a shelf full of NYX product but I behaved myself and bought only one.
The product I went for is a 'Butter Gloss', I went with this particular product because I heard quite some good stories about this lipgloss and I wanted to try this gloss myself.  There are quite a lot of shades and I went for 'Merengue', the perfect shade for spring I hope.
'Butter me up with divine gloss that feels like it melts on lips' that the slogan of this lipgloss and NYX claims that this gloss feels like butter, I like butter :). There are twenty two shades in this range and there is a wide variety. From dark plums to bright oranges to muted pinks, there is something for everybody.

These glosses are quite pigmented and the applicator does not look special to me but it applies really nice. I really like the way this lipgloss applies and I like the coverage, it is just the perfect amount. The colour is a really light pink which I really like, it is the perfect shade for the coming spring in which pastel shades are very much on trend.
I am really happy with this lipgloss and I really like the way it wears, it stays on quite long but it still is and stays a lipgloss. That is why it does not stay on that long, two/three hours is the maximum. I bought this lipgloss like I said in Utrecht and I do not have any idea if other Douglas stores sell it as well, in holland they cost €9,99 which is around the same price point as Maybelline.

Essence Hardening Nail Base and Quick Drying Topcoat

Hello my loves,

Last Sunday, when I was painting my nails, I discovered that I had lost my basecoat and that my topcoat was dried-out. It was Sunday so I could not go to the stores for new ones because they were closed and I had wait until the next day. I bought new ones and they are both from Essence.
I bought the 'Studio Nails Hardening Nail Base' and the 'Quick Dry Topcoat', they are both from Essence but I already told you that. I bought this particular base coat because I have had an issue with breaking nails lately. Probably because of the weather in Holland lately and because I have not been feeling that great lately. The reason that I bought a quick drying topcoat is pretty simple, I wanted a fast drying topcoat.
There is not much to see about this nail base. It dries clear and gives your nails just a little bit of shine, nothing really special. I cannot review the quality of this nail polish just yet because I have not worn it long enough but I am pretty pleased so far. I removed my green nail polish today and my nails were not stained at all.
On these nails I am wearing the basecoat, a Bourjois nail polish and the topcoat. This topcoat is very liquid, sometimes nail polishes can be a little bit thick. It makes my nails very shiny and I feel like it protects the nail polish as well. I have been wearing it for two days now and it has not chipped (only at my index finger but that is because I have worked).

I am quite happy with these new polished, especially because they were not expensive at all. I did not ask for a receipt so I do not know the exact prices but they cost around the €3,00.

What is going on with the dutch iceskaters?

Hello my loves,

You cannot have missed it, the winter olympic are happening right now. Another thing you cannot have missed is the Dutch success in speedskating. I, as a proud Dutch girl, cannot let this moment pass without a mention on my blog. Certainly not when I missed a post while celebrating the success last Saturday. The photos I use in this post are from facebook, a Dutch news website (www.nu.nl) and http://www.olympic.org/. I will put the translations of the Dutch text in the pictures underneath the photo in parentheses. Just keep in mind that 'Nederlanders' means Dutch people.
It all started with these three Dutch skaters; Sven Kramer, Jan Blokhuijsen en Jorrit Bergsma. This was the first clean sweep of the medals, they did it on the 5000m and this was the start of the rain of gold medals. The first on of many to come.
Than the next day, sunday. Not all three medals for Holland but the gold medal was ours. After Sven Kramer, Ireen Wüst is the most famous iceskater in the Netherlands and here she proves why. A gold medal on the 3000m, amazing . The Czech Sablikova came in second and the Russian Graf was third.
The background even forms the Dutch flag (sort of)
On Monday we had another orange stage, this time on the 500m. We had never won a gold medal on this distance and now we have all three of them! The number one, Michel Mulder and the number three, Ronald Mulder are twins and Jan Smeekens (he is very handsome and my favourite) came in second. His story is kind of sad because the time he was told he had to skate to win gold was changed during his race. When Jan was skating, Michel's time got corrected and Jan did not know this, obviously because he was too busy skating. He finishes, saw a 1 behind his name and thought he was the olympic champion. 10 seconds later, the outcome changes and Michel is the champion. I did not like this since I am a fan of Jan Smeekens but still, all three medals for the second time during one olympics, that is insane!
Than we have our Margot Boer who won a bronze medal on Tuesday. This is a very special medal for Holland because it is the first one ever (for us) on this distance for females. If you had seen her reaction, you would have thought she had gold but that went to the Korean Sang Hwa LEE and the silver was for the Russian Olga Fatkulina.
Than a little joke in between all these medals. Our king and queen, Willem and Maxima are fanatic supporters but Willem fell asleep during the mop break (he drank some beer with Poetin the night before ;)) and someone made this out of the scenario, this person deserves a gold medal!
On Wednesday there was another almost clean sweep. Stefan Groothuis won the gold medal on the 1000 meter and he deserved it. He went through a deep depression in 2011 and he almost committed suicide (he did not try to, let me be clear) but he crawled out of that deep valley, trained again and won gold on the Olympics! The bronze went to Michel Mulder and the Canadian, Denny Morrison got the silver medal. This led to the following picture:
It just does not make sense!
(Silver and bronze 1000m ladies)
Than it was Thursday and Ireen Wüst had to skate again, she could not beat the Chinese Hong Zhang, also known as 'snelle Zhang' (fast Zhang). Margot Boer came in third and we have another Dutch sandwich! The other Dutch Skaters, Lotte van Beek and Marrit Leentra, came in fifth and sixth.
(For the first time ever, Bronze for Sjinkie Knegt)
Than we make a little trip to shorttrack, we won a bronze medal on this discipline. The Russians came in first and second but Sjinkie won the first ever shorttrack medal for the Netherlands and that deserves an applause.
(Unbelievable, Silver for Koen Verweij)
On Friday no medals were won for the Dutchies but only because we did not do anything that day. Saturday we had yet another medal, a silver one this time. Koen Verweij was the lucky bastard who got it. Well lucky? He was not happy that is one thing I know for sure, he could not smile when he got his medal and he says that he hopes be proud of silver in the future but at the moment, he is not. The gold was won by a Polish guy I had never heard of (Zbigniew BRODKA) and he was only 0,003 seconds faster so basically similar results. I am beginning to think that the thousands should not be counted in skating (just like skiing, than there would have been two gold medals). Denny Morrison, you know that Canadian, got the bronze medal. Mark Tuitert (the Dutch olympic champion from Vancouver got in fifth and the other Dutchies, Stefan Groothuis and Jan Blokhuijsen, were eleventh and twelfth.
(Another Dutch Trio in Sochi)
Than the most recent Dutch victory, yet another sweep of the medals by us. This 1500 meter was won by Jorien Ter Mors (in the middle), a shorttracker, with a new olympic record. She was sixth at the shorttrack 300  and sixth at the 1500 meter, so just outside the medals. Now she finally got a medal and it is a pretty gold one! Ireen Wüst got the silver one and Lotte van Beek swept the gold, the other Dutch skater Marrit Leenstra was fourth. Not a 1,2,3 this time but 4 as well, this is the first time ever in speed skating that one country takes all four top spots.
(Best games ever for the Netherlands)
The weirdest thing is that we are not finished yet and we already have 16 out of the 24 medals we could win with speed skating. We have a total of 17 medals now and this is a new Dutch record. We now also have the record for most medals in one discipline during the winter games. We have sixteen speed skate medals and that means Austria's record of 14 medals for Alpine Skiing (2006) is broken. No team been so dominant in speed skating since East Germany in the 1980s.
This does not mean this is all, oh no believe me. We still have the 10 000 m men and the 5000 m woman to go and of course the team pursuit.  The Norwegian skaters and the Russian Skobrev have already said they are  going to skipped the 10 km (probably  because they are afraid of Sven Kramer) and on of the norwegians, Bokko, says; "But we would not add a chapter to history if we would skate. We would be twenty or thirty seconds slower than the Dutch."
That was it for this blogpost but the games are not over yet. I am hoping for more medals and maybe, just maybe will win a snowboard or bobsleigh medal as well, we will see and I will do another blogpost about the games when they are finished. I am not in Sochi but here in Holland we party as well, I went out with my friends last Saturday (which is why I did not upload) and 'we zijn helemaal naar de klote gegaan!' The whole world knows how good a Dutch party can be and the videos below give you only the smallest idea!
I hope you have enjoyed the Olympic games so far, I know I have but we are not finished yet!
