Sinterklaas, who doesn't know him?

Hello my loves,

Today I have a blog post for you that is a little bit different than my usual ones. Not a review but just a little piece of writing. I am going to explain what the Dutch tradition called, Sinterklaas is.
Sinterklaas is a Dutch festivity that is a little bit similar to Santa Claus, only on 5 december. On the picture above you see him on his horse and if you look closely, you can see the similarities to Santa. When I was little I always thought Santa Claus was a fake.
This is how he arrives in Holland, on his steamship 'pakjesboot 12'. Sinterklaas is from Spain, you know. In the fifteenth century the people in Holland placed their shoes on the fifth of december (the day we celebrate 'pakjesavond' (presentevening), and the richer people put money in the shoes for the poor. That money was given out on the sixth of december, the day Sinterklaas died.
According to the legend Sinterklaas was born in Turkey, became the bishop of Myra and died on the 16th of december in 342. Nowadays Sinterklaas comes from Spain but if I am actually no idea why that is. There are three legends about him.
  1. Sint-Nicolaas (his official name) brought three little children back to life after they were killed by a hostler.
  2. Sint-Nicolaas gave three poor daughter present so that they could marry well.
  3. Sint-Nicolaas saved a child from burning.
I have no idea if these legends are true but they go way back. I learned on school that Sinterklaas was declared holy by the Catholic church which is why he is called Sint-Nicolaas (sint means saint in Dutch).
This is how he comes on land, this year he arrived in Groningen but he also arrived ones in my hometown. He arrives with his zwarte pieten (zwart=black, piet=a Dutch name), this year there was a lot of discussion if zwarte piet was racist but I do  not believe that. I understand that some people might find it offensive but I do not think that is true. I always learned that he was black because of the chimney. He brings the presents to the children through the chimney and the soot (is this the correct word?) has made his skin black. They are by no means slaves.
After he arrives we place our shoes in front the chimney (or the back door since I do not have chimney) with a carrot, hay and some water for Amerigo (Sinterklaas his horse) in it. Than we sing Sinterklaas songs, otherwise Sinterklaas does not come to visit your house :). The next morning you when you wake up you run downstairs and Sinterklaas has put a present in your shoe. Usually something small like a dvd or something.  Next to the present you usually get some pepernoten and of course the carrot is gone, Amerigo has eaten it.
On the fifth of december we celebrate pakjesavond. Than Sinterklaas and his pieten walk over the roofs and deliver presents to every household in the Netherlands.Since there are not many chimneys left in the Netherlands he nowadays hides the presents somewhere in the house or places them in front of the door and knocks to let the family know that the presents have arrived.
This how the presents arrive. In a jute sack along with pepernoten, schuimpjes, chocolade muizen and letters.Later more about  the food but first more about the presents. I celebrate Sinterklaas with my family just like most of the Dutch people. My family still has some little boys and girls in there who still believe Sinterklaas exists so we always make a huge play out of it, it is so much fun. We always hide the presents outside the door when we arrive at the home were we celebrate and when everybody has arrived, somebody knocks on the window (were the little ones can not see it) and the frenzy begins. The little ones go crazy and run to the door to see the hidden presents and bring them in. I have quite a large family so we always have a huge pile since everybody buys presents for everybody and it takes quite a lot of hours to get through the pile because all the bigger presents have a poems attached top them.
Now lets move on to the best part of Sinterklaas, the candy. The most famous candy we eat during Sinterklaas is a pepernoot, I do not know the correct translation of this word but it should be something like a peppernut (the brown little balls on the picture) and believe me, they are delicious.
The big letter on the picture is made out of chocolate and it comes in every size, flavour and every letter of the alphabet.  I love the white ones because I just love white chocolate but the ones with milk chocolate are delicious as well.  Other candies we eat during this time a years are tum tums (the colorful sugary balls) and schuimpjes (merengues). The schuimpjes are shaped like a sinterklaas-thing, like a steamboat, presents and carrots and of course we drink chocolate milk as well.
Then on the sixth of december Sinterklaas leaves and goes back to Spain. I already placed my shoe in front of the backdoor and got a dvd in it and on the fifth I will go and celebrate pakjesavond at my grandmothers house.
Before I forget, let me explain the title to you. It is the first line and title of a song. We have quite a few Sinterklaas songs. Here is my favourite.
I hoped you liked reading about this Dutch tradition which is as big as Santa Claus is in the rest of the world here in the Netherlands. I was raised with christianity so I always learned Santa Claus was not real and Christmas was about the birth of little Jezus.

I am a busy bee (buzzzzzy)

Hello my loves,

If you read  my blog on a regular base your are probably wondering why I did not post today. Well let me explain it for you. I am in my last year of highschool and some of you might know how busy that year can be. I have  managed to blog regularly until now, school gets in my way and I just do not have time to write reviews or other blogsposts.

On monday I have a very important deadline and in a few weeks an even more important presentation. I will not bore you with that but you can understand how stressful stuff like this can be. When I have time I will write my next blogpost but I think that will not happen until monday evening. This means you can expect a new blogpost on tuesday. I hope you wont mind but school is just a little bit more important at the moment.

Palmer's Shea Butter Formula with Vitamin E

Hello my loves,

After my not so loving review of Monday I have a more positive review for you today. I do not have pretty feet, I know a lot of people will say this but I do not think my feet are ugly, I just have a lot of splits in my heels and under the ball of my foot. Do not worry no pictures of those in this review, I do not want those on the internet. Today I am reviewing a concentrated cream.
I found this in one of the drawers in the bathroom and I kind of stole if from my mother (she has not noticed it yet and I do not think she ever used it since it was completely full when I grabbed it. It is from a brand I had have never heard from before; Palmer's.
The Palmer's product I am reviewing today is the Shea Butter Formula With Vitamin E Concentrated Cream for extra dry skin. This cream can be used on your hands, elbows, knees and feet but I think you can use it on other dry patches somewhere on your body as well. I am currently using in on my heels and elbows.
I shower almost every evening and after my hot shower, I sit on my bed, take this cream and apply a thick layer on my heels. My heels are extremely dry and have a lot of slits, you could say 'it runs in the family'. After I massage the cream into my heel I take a nice fluffy sock and put it on right over cream, I do this because the cream takes a long time to sink into your skin. Right before I fall asleep (I usually read something or watch a YouTube video) I make sure to take the socks of and I am left with really nice and soft feet.
On the picture above you see the thick cream. It is really moisturizing and therefore takes long time to sink into your skin. This means your left with greasy feet for a while, definitely put some socks on if your are walking after you applied the cream or you will slip and slide through your house. I have been using this for two weeks or so now and I dare to say that I see a huge difference in my heels. The slits are smaller and   my feet are just less dry. I always forget to apply it to my elbows but when I do I, I already notice a difference the next morning.
I have no idea how expensive this is or where you can buy it but when you see it the store, think of your dry heels and pick this up because it is amazing.

Catrice Thrilling Me Softly Wet Shine Stain Long-Lasting Lip Lacquer

Hello my loves,

When I saw that this limited edition from Catrice was coming this month I was incredibly enthusiastic. That was until I was looking at the collection in the store; the eyeshadows are chalky, the blush sticks were sold out and the nail polish colours did not appeal to me. I did however pick up one product.
I bought one shade of the Wet Shine Stain Long-Lasting Lip Lacquer. There are three shades in total and I got the prettiest one; Fatal. The other shades are called: 'Innocent' and 'Thrilling'. 'Innocent is a soft baby pink colour and 'Thrilling' is a orangey red.
The packaging of this limited edition is absolutely gorgeous. Every product of the line has patches of lace over it. The colours of the lace on the lip lacquers do not exactly line up with the shades. 'Fatal' is a  deep cherry red colour and the lace on the packaging is in a brownish pink shade.  So check out the actual colour of the lip lacquer and do not choose it by the colour of the packaging.
I fell for the shade of this product when I bought it and I though the consistency would be similar to the  Rimmel Lip Lacquers (I have one of those and I love it, here is a review) but it is not, it is completely different. This is a wet lip stain which basically means your lips will keep looking like there are wet. This is something you need to like but it is not my taste, I like semi-matte finishes better. Another thing about this product that is not so good, it the applicator. It is almost impossible to apply it with the actual applicator. The colour is very pigmented and the applicator is not very precise. I tried applying it with a lip brush which went better but it is still very hard to get neat. Definitely take your time when you apply this because it will take a while.
I cannot decide if I like this or if I hate this. The colour is incredibly amazing but applying it is awful. The colour is worth it I think but than again, I have some other colours just as pretty that apply better.  I do not really like the finish of the lip product and I do not think I will be wearing this a lot.
If you want to try this lip lacquer you will need to be quick because it is a limited edition but I do not think this will be a huge hit.
You can but the Wet Shine Stain Long-Lasting Lip Lacquer for € 3,99 at the drugstore.

Sneak Preview: Skins

Hello my loves,

While I am writing this little sneak preview for you I am sitting in a thick cozy bathrobe after a nice warm shower and after a hard workout at the gym. Today I went too Groningen, a city in the north of the Netherlands. It is an two hour ride by train from where I live but it was all worth it because there was a store there, a store called skins.
I believe the Skins in Groningen is the only store in the Netherlands were they sell the English brand Sleek. Sleek is one of the brands I have been wanting to try for a long time now but I did not want to order it because then I can not swatch it. My friend told me about Skins Groningen selling Sleek and we saw the perfect opportunity to buy some Sleek.
Now you are probably wondering what I bought exactly. Well I bought two palettes and I am already in love with them. I have made the pictures for the reviews that are coming already and I have used them a couple times now. Let me tell you, they are amazing.
I bought an 'i-Divine Mineral Based Eye Shadow Palette' and a 'Contouring and Blush Palette'. The eyeshadow palette is 578 Storm and the contour palette is 372 Fair. The pictures are made and the reviews are planned in, stay tuned and the reviews will come in a few weeks.

My Favourite Fashion Blogs

Hello my loves,

Today I have a blog post that is a little bit different than the usual content on my blog. I already do some favourite posts like my favourites of the month and my favourite music. Now I am sharing my favourite fashion blogs of the moment.
When the autumn comes peeking around the corner I always start to get more into fashion because I like the sort of clothes in this season better. Chunky knits, blazers and warm scarves, that what I love and not the short shorts and tank tops from the summer. That is why I am always excited for the autumn time but also because those rich colours like burgundy and emerald look better on me than neon or pastels. I also start go on more fashion blogs around this time a year and now I am sharing my favourite ones with you!
I want to state out that the pictures shown in this post are not in any way mine, all the rights belong to the owners of the fashion blogs that I am going to talk about.
Source made into a collage with PicMonkey
The first blog I love is 24 years old girl from Germany, called Vicky. I can not remember how I found this blog but once I was on it I believe I went through it for like and hour. Her style is amazing and really affordable but with a few more expensive things mixed in. Especially the shoes in the picture above! I need those!
Go check Vicky's blog out because I think it is one of the best ones out there. Her photos are amazing and I am checking her blog a lot of times in the week, I hope you will be doing this as well since her style is definitely worth a peek and I even dare to say that her blog is my favourite one out of the ones I am showing you, that is why I am talking about Bikinis & Passports first.
Let's move on to the next blog.
The second blog I read a lot. This one is by Annabelle and I believe she lives in America but I do not know were or anything. Her style is really classy and she wear a lot of expensive items which makes it just pure pleasure to watch.
I would definately check this blog out because it has so many amazing eye candy on there, the pictures are amazing and Annabelle is a beautiful girl that could have been a model I think. I love the classic way she styles her outfits and her shoes.... I do not have words for it!
Two blogs down, one to go.
Her blog I found through Instagram when I was looking through a following list off somebody I follow me. I love the way she styles her high heels in a casual outfit which is something I find really hard. Another thing I like is that she buys lots of thing from Romwe, which is a asian website, this makes her style really different than any other.
Anni´s blog was the last one certainly not my least favourite one, I love this blog just as much as VivaLuxury and because she is from Germany, the weather is similar to the weather here, in Holland. That is the main issue I have with fashion blogs. They always walk in  bare legs but that is here only possible in july and august, the rest of the year it is too cold or it is raining. In Germany it is even a little bit colder so Anni´s vlog is perfect.

Well, that was it. These were my favourite fashion blogs and I definitely hope you will check them out. Let me know what your favourite blogs are and I hope you enjoyed reading about mine.

Dove Hair Therapy Split Ends Rescue

Hello my loves,

Since I finished my Garnier Fructis Shampoo, I have been using these new products; The Dove Hair Therapy line for Split ends. I decided to pick these products up because I saw a really loving review by the lovely Serena from www.beautylab.nl. She is one of the best Dutch beauty bloggers and she has her roots somewhere in Asia (I believe Indonesia, but I am not sure). She had really bad split ends and she said that this line really helps masking that (split ends can not be repaired, no matter what a brand says)
There are three products in the 'Split Ends Rescue' line; a shampoo, conditioner and a leave-on-treatment and I bought all three of them. The products are supposed to go until cel-level and should help restoring your split ends but we all know this is a fairytale. When your ends are split you can only mask them or cut them off, there is no way to repair them. The first thing is what these products do, they lay a little layer around your split ends which makes them close. They stay closed until the layer wears off, then the split ends are back.
The three products are supposed to be used with each other but you can use other products with it as well. These three products are the only hair products I have used since three weeks, this because I wanted to see if it made any difference.  I thought this was the best way to test them out.
Now you are probably wondering if what I really think of the products, well I can tell you that in one word: AMAZING. After using it once, I already saw a difference. I have a lot of split ends but after using it once, I saw a huge difference and I had a lot less split ends. Now that I have using a while I can honestly say that this is my new love. The day after I wash my hair, it looks the best. The longest I have not washed my hair was 5 days (I know gross but I just did not have time) and then I slowly saw the split ends returning, proof that the shampoo only works temporarily. It is not magic like going to the hairdresser.
Love your hair, I completely agree with this!
The bottles that I have are now half empty and I am definitely going to repurchase them.  The products are not expensive as well, I can not remember the exact prices but it was under 5 euros a piece. A really good price for amazing hair care. Aussie is another hair brand that I love but it is a little bit more expensive. Believe me when I say these products are definitely worth the price, they are in fact better than the price.
Let me know what shampoo you are currently using and if you have ever tried a product from the 'Split Ends Rescue' line.
